Akira offers absolutely no doubt about what music they are trying to create. This is rock at a pure level with ethereal undertones. This three-piece were formed in Cambridge (Yay! My old college town!) and all I can say is where the hell were they when I was there!
On the bio page of their website (akiraband.com) it.s interesting to note that one of their influences was the old 70.s Japanese Anime series Battle of the Planet, something that may say a bit about where the name comes from.
But cool influences aside, the music itself is what being in a loud band is all about. The perfect gig band for a big city (and maybe they can wake Cambridge up a bit while they.re at it!). It.s only a shame that on this CD there were only two tracks. Both full of promise, both full the distillation of thrash and ghostly combined. Let.s hope they can write songs fast so they can get out another release in the near future.
